We can work to increase coping abilities allowing for more mindful decisions in life! A combination of cognitive behavioral techniques, post modern narrative approaches and practices increasing mindfulness are used. The cognitive behavioral work and mindful practice can decrease symptoms rapidly, and teach you techniques and skills to manage your strong feelings without letting them hijack your life.
The main skill I work on is emotional regulation. This is the ability to control how we manage and express our emotions. This ability begins developing as an infant but as life goes on, emotional development and social interactions become increasingly complex. Early trauma, sensory processing issues, or perforated attachments can disrupt emotional development and leave us with certain triggers for dysregulation, states of upset and panic, or states of hopelessness and despair. We can identify the problem so you can fully understand all treatment options.
Just as you would take care of your body if it were hurting, sick or disrupting your life, you could be learning to regulate your emotional behavior and create healthier life patterns, repair or create positive connections, and find some internal balance.
